Recommended Practices for Asset Manager – Broker Margin Communication

This document defines a practical FIX Protocol messaging framework for margin requirement reporting between asset managers and broker-dealers. It is intended to support a consistent
process through which buyside firms can request and receive margin information from the sellside, whether on a requested or unsolicited basis, and at summary or detailed level.
In the context of swaps financing and related bilateral financing activity, timely margin reporting is a key operational control: it helps firms monitor exposure, understand initial and
variation margin requirements, track posted and received amounts, and support the daily workflow around collateral management, dispute reduction and funding decisions. By
standardising the content and delivery of these messages, the specification aims to improve transparency, reduce manual processing and provide a scalable basis for margin reporting
across counterparties and products.
Further details on the messages and fields described in this document can be found in FIX Latest Extension Packs 102 and 254 on the FIX website.
